Confira a correção dos exercícios sobre subject e object pronouns.

Em relação ao quadro publicado anteriormente, podemos usar tanto o termo “nominative” quanto “subjective” pronoun; nesta correção vou usar “subjective”.
Pronouns (pronomes) são palavras que substituem nomes. Vamos entender esta relação.
Subject é referente ao sujeito, ou seja, quem faz a ação.
Object é referente ao objeto, que não faz ação alguma (às vezes recebe a ação).
Se falamos de ação, vamos sempre procurar o verbo da frase para determinar qual pronome devemos usar.
1) (I/ Me) can help (she/ her) with the new computer.
Eu posso ajudá-la com o novo computador.
Help (ajudar) é o verbo.
Quem está fazendo esta ação, “ajudar”? O subject pronoun, no caso “Eu”. Portanto:
“I can help”
Agora….“she” ou “her”?
Esta pessoa, “ela”, esta fazendo alguma ação? Não. (está recebendo, no caso, a ajuda). Portanto, usamos o object pronoun “her”.
I can help her with the new computer.
2) (He/ him) is travelling with that group of gentlemen.
Ele está viajando com aquele grupo de cavalheiros.
Verbo: to travel = viajar
He is travelling with that group of gentlemen.
Agora, para a questão abaixo.
Q: that group of gentlemen = (them/ they)?
“Aquele grupo de cavalheiros”, está fazendo alguma ação na frase? Aparece algum verbo depois deles? Não. Portanto, object pronoun.
He is travelling with them.
3) You should consult the book.
Q: the book = ( )?
The book é um objeto, portanto pode ser substituído por “it” (object pronoun).
You should consult it.
4) (I/ me) believe Mark and Cindy are the best employees of the year.
Dois verbos na frase: “believe” e “are” (to be).
To believe = acreditar / are = são
Quem acredita? “I”, pois “me” não faz ação.
Quem são os melhores funcionários?
“Mark and Cindy” ou “they”, pelo mesmo motivo acima: “them” não faz ação.
Q: Mark and Cindy = they
I believe they are the best employees of the year.
5) The big corporation did not prevent the problem.
Did not prevent = não preveniu
Quem não previniu? “The big corporation”. Portanto:
Q: The big corporation = “It” ou “they”, por ser formado por pessoas – os dois subject pronouns.
The problem não faz nenhuma ação, portanto:
Q: the problem = it (object pronoun)
They did not prevent it.
6) This is not about (them / they), it’s about (we/ us).
Há algum verbo depois da frase de them/ they? Não. Portanto, se não faz ação, temos “them” object pronoun. E o mesmo vale para we/ us.
This is not about them, it’s about us.
7) – Who is the new boss?
- Nicole de Sousa
Temos Nicole de Sousa, “ela”, sozinha na sentença, ou seja, sem fazer ação alguma. Portanto:
Q: Nicole de Sousa = her.
Porém, uma outra opção seria dizer “She is” (ao usar o verbo “is” – to be – empregamos o subject pronoun “she”. Seria o equivalente a dizer “Ela é”, e fica subentendido “a nova chefe”).
8) – Can ( I/ me) borrow this book from you?
- Sure, can you give (I/ me) back the other one first?
To borrow = pegar emprestado
Fazendo a ação: “I”
Can you give me back? = Você pode me devolver?
“you” está devolvendo, logo: “me” está recebendo de volta.
- Can I borrow this book from you?
- Sure, can you give me back the other one first?
9) The river, the grass and the trees behind my house will always be on my mind.
Verbo “to be”:
Will always be = sempre estarão
Q: The river, the grass and the trees behind my house = They
10) Angela only thinks about (she/ her/ herself).
Vamos encarar esta frase como:
“Angela” only thinks about “Angela”.
Diríamos “Angela only thinks about her” mas como her é ela mesma, a frase fica assim:
“Angela only thinks about herself”.
